For most subjects students must take a final written exam to pass, although some exams may be oral. Exams for subjects in the first semester take usually place in late January or early February. Classes are usually cancelled during this exam period. Second semester exams are taken in late-May/ June, when there are no classes.
The calendar of exams for both semesters is available to students on the university official webpage before the beggining of the corresponding academic year as well as displayed on each faculty and school noticeboards.
International students are expected to take exams during the examination period. Note that failure to attend will result with a "NOT ATTENDED" mark and no-credit award on the Transcript of Records that will be issued at the end of the year/semester. Only under very exceptional circumstances would international students be allowed to undertake alternative examination dates if unable to sit for an exam. Students must inform of those circumtances to the lecturer in charge of the subject as soon as possible.
